Spotify Music Playlist | November
It’s mid-November, and the cooler, darker days I usually think of when I consider this month is finally here. Stuck indoors on a particularly blustery day, I sat down with Spotify and went through songs I love to capture my mood. I thought I’d share my November soundtrack, and its calm and reflective mood, with you.
Musical preferences and moods are idiosyncratic, I know. Still, I hope you enjoy the gift as it is intended – to give you some space to feel the season while cooking, knitting, or just sitting in your garden watching it go to sleep for a few months.
Ani DiFranco, Amazing Grace
I love this alternative take on the classic American hymn because the new sound helps me hear the wisdom of the old words. Here’s the live version.
Autumn Sweater, Yo La Tango
The lyrics and musical accompaniment capture the way November can make me feel alone in a crowd, and the deep social comfort of a woodland walk with my bestie.
Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground, Chris Thile (and Jack White)
I chose the bluegrass version of this White Stripes song because it better hit my mood. Here’s the link to the original for anyone needing to rock out.
Mistress of Storms, Bruce Cockburn
Charity of Night is my all time favorite Bruce Cockburn album. While Pacing the Cage is my go-to song on the compilation, this piece with the marimba and guitar is so autumn like that I can smell the leaves and campfire.
My Favorite Things, John Coltrane
Gratitude is the attitude for November! Listen to this one while considering 2017 and naming the things that went well, that bring you quiet joy…what your favorite things!
The full list is 10 songs in all. It lasts about an hour and 15 minutes. I’ll hotlink the remainder of the songs here and connect you to the Spotify playlist below.
