The Stony Ridge Farm Blog | Seasonal Living
Stony Ridge Farm is an online community supporting individuals seeking to create a particular calm sanity in their daily lives. This seasonal lifestyle is rooted in the soothing rhythms of seasonal time. Consequently, the blog is currently broken down into four categories: food, home, garden, and wellness. These lifestyle themes often impact on one’s sense of wellness. Over time, these focus areas helped me create a right relationship with the world, although I’m still working on it. In my experience, decisions in these areas have life influencing consequences. So, I write about them to connect with others who seek a similar lifestyle. Finally, this blog helps me learn and grow outside of my own personal bubble while helping others do the same.
FOOD is all about working with the fresh ingredients available for your daily meals from local providers. The farmers in your community are dedicated to cultivating vegetables, eggs, meats and fresh herbs of the highest quality and nutritional value. Building a relationship with a local farm and gathering the primary ingredients for your household meals from their weekly offerings inserts your body and senses into the moments of the seasons as they pass. On this site, FOOD blogs have three purposes. They are frequently recipes that help you capture the best of a particular ingredient in a single meal. The posts also offer food preservation technique that supports your locavore intentions throughout the year. Finally, I just like focusing on a single vegetable and digging deep into its roots (pun intended!).
GARDEN is a section of the blog dedicated to both basic kitchen garden how-tos and task lists. The Garden section also highlights successful kitchen gardens. Whether you are in a rural, suburban or urban environment, we can introduce you to inspirational kitchen gardens and gardeners. Take a virtual visit!
HOME is dedicated to DIY projects that support your seasonal lifestyle. These posts help you disconnect from mindless consumerism. The projects are easy and inexpensive. If I can pull them off with some level of success, then I have complete confidence that you will have fun dedicating an afternoon to creating with their guidance. Give one a try! (PS – You’ll find a little write up on Bob’s farm themed posters in the HOME section, too!)
WELLNESS blog posts were created the moment I recognized the profound impact my spiritual and nutritional practices have on the quality of my seasonal lifestyle. The distance between one’s current modern lifestyle and aspirations for a slower and more simple seasonal lifestyle can be overwhelming. This selection of blog posts describes practices that help ground, calm, clarify and nourish. Discover a practice to support your seasonal living here.
Finally, this online business is an outgrowth of my years operating a farm share program from a four-season market garden. They also are informed by my studies of ecopsychology at the Buddhist University, Naropa. That time at Naropa created the foundation of my spiritual practices. The blog posts are my offering to a world in need of human happiness. I want to be a part of a community that finds their happiness in natural settings. Let’s share a love for seasonal time, local food, and a profound sense of home in this virtual space. Please join me.
For all these reasons, I ask you to consider signing up for our monthly newsletter. You will receive a workbook designed to help you create a seasonal life! Hesitant to add one more newsletter to your email inbox? Then, just send me an email and we’ll have a nice conversation over a cuppa!
