Read on to learn more about the prints, the artist, and our holiday sale on these whimsical farm-themed posters!
Bob Shelley is a world-class graphic artist and designer. This gorgeous guy is classically trained in portrait painting with a degree in fine arts from the Maryland Institue College of Art. He’s had a long and eventful career winning awards, owning and operating a large design firm, designing for venture capitalists in the dot-com age, and finally downsizing as a solo-preneur and living life as a gentleman farmer in Harpers Ferry, WV.
It’s one of his products I want to share with you today, a series of farm-themed posters. Let me tell you the story behind their creation…
When we bought the property that is now Stony Ridge Farm, it was what might be called a blank slate. In less gentle terms, it was a wreck. As we came to work on the house, outbuildings, and 5-acres of the homestead we spent a lot of time outdoors. Bob, while working hard building fences and renovating buildings, was also watching the fauna and flora on the ridge, in the emerging garden beds, and in the pasture. At the end of long days outdoors, he would retreat to his studio and begin designing posters based on what he observed that day.
As a result, we offer a series of the most adorable farm-themed posters! I’m going to focus on three of the posters and their creation story, leave you a link to see them all, and finally offer you a discount code for purchase during the 2017 Holiday season.
The sale will run from November 22, 2017, through January 6, 2018.
Celebrate Summer – the first poster designed in the series. Bob LOVES praying mantis. A customer of the farm even calls him The Mantis Whisperer! So, it was no surprise to me when the Carmen Miranda Mantis came rolling out of the Epson printer in all her glory. (She’s my favorite of the series!)
Our most popular poster is of these chicks ready for a girls night out! The funny thing about barnyard humor is that if you live with livestock, you begin to see the truth in all those little cliches. Every time I see this poster I remember this particular flock of hens and how personable they were! These girls are certainly nothing short of a bunch of cool chicks ready to strut their stuff.
PS – there’s a matching Cool Chicks coffee mug, too!
We have a lot of clay in our soil. We add a composted organic material to enrich and loosen the soil. Carrots seem to have the hardest time in this environment. Quite a few look like these twisted sisters. Bob harvested these carrots from a bit of parched garden one August afternoon and went straight to his studio and started drawing. Orgasmic!
